Inclusion Coffee Morning

For our latest Inclusion coffee morning, we invited Annelise Goodare, an Educational Psychologist to lead a session on anxiety and worry. She covered the following areas:

  • · Understanding of anxiety and worry
  • · Anxiety and the brain
  • · Environmental factors and anxiety
  • · How anxiety impacts daily life
  • · How to support my child with worry or anxiety

Parent quotes:-

“It was so helpful and really engaging.”

“A lot was covered and really useful topic and strategies.”

“Very supportive and informative discussion.”

“A great session, clear and simple and easy to implement.”

The next Inclusion Coffee Morning is on Monday 8th June at 8:45-10am in the Old School Hall, please follow the path by the War memorial. Following suggestions by parents at the last coffee morning, the focus of the next meeting will be how to support your child who is diagnosed with a neurodiversity or if you believe they show traits of neurodiversity.

ADHD Friendly Award

We have achieved the ADHD Friendly award from the ADHD Foundation. This is a charity which supports those who are neurodivergent with advocacy, support and research.

In order achieve this award, we satisfied pledges that are designed to support children with focus and concentration. This included:

  • All staff attending training where staff developed an understanding of what ADHD is, how it affects children’s focus, organisation, and behaviour and practical strategies to support attention and concentration—such as clear routines, chunked instructions, movement breaks, visual supports, and positive behaviour approaches.
  • School running a parents’ workshop led by the ADHD Foundation where theory was shared about how ADHD effect the brain and strategies were given for parents to try at home.
  • Providing opportunities to support pupils to engage in lessons such as providing physical exercise in the school day and using tactile resources.

Asthma Friendly School Award

We have also achieved the Asthma Friendly School award. This has involved staff training in how to support children with asthma, having emergency relievers available and ensuring our policies and personal asthma plans include all that they need to.

Courses

We have recently received information about a range of parent courses covering various topics which may be helpful for families. Whilst we are unfamiliar with this provider, some of the themes may be of interest to families.
