Parking on School Site
At Leckhampton, we actively encourage active journeys to school, such as walking, cycling or scooting wherever possible. These not only promote healthier lifestyles but also help to reduce congestion around the school and improve safety for everyone.
To support the safety of our pupils, families and staff, parents should not drive into either of the school car parks at drop-off or collection times. Access to the car parks is restricted to those displaying a valid Blue Badge or families who have been granted permission by the school due to exceptional circumstances.
We appreciate your support in helping to keep our school site safe and accessible for all members of our community. Together, we can create a safer and more sustainable journey to and from school.
Head Lice
We have recently had a small number of reported cases of head lice in school. Head lice are very common among primary school-aged children and can spread easily through close head-to-head contact. We kindly ask all parents and carers to check their child’s hair regularly using a detection comb and to begin treatment promptly if live lice are found. Regular checking is the most effective way to prevent head lice from spreading. For further advice on identification and treatment, please speak to your pharmacist or visit the NHS website. Thank you for your support in helping us minimise the spread of head lice within our school community.
Lost Property
Our lost property collection is growing rapidly and contains a large number of unnamed items, including school jumpers, coats, water bottles and lunch boxes. We encourage all parents and carers to clearly label their child’s belongings with their name, as this greatly increases the chances of lost items being returned promptly.
We have also noticed that some items are labelled with the names of pupils who have now left the school. If your child is using second-hand uniform or other pre-loved items, please take a moment to update the name label to ensure lost belongings can be returned to the correct owner.
Any unclaimed items will be displayed for parents to check before being donated or recycled at the end of term. Thank you for your support in helping us reunite lost items with their owners.
BBC 500 Words
Do you have a budding author at home? BBC 500 Words is the UK’s largest children’s story-writing competition and is open to young writers of all ages. Children are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild and write the kind of story they would love to read. The competition celebrates creativity and originality, with no focus on spelling, grammar or punctuation.
There are some fantastic prizes on offer, and being part of the competition is a wonderful opportunity for children to develop their confidence and enjoyment of writing.
Entry deadline: Friday 6th November 2026, 9.00pm
To find out more and submit an entry, please visit: 500 Words 2026 Competition – How to Enter & More | Blue Peter’s Inspiration guide – CBBC
We would love to hear about any Leckhampton pupils who enter the competition and wish all our young writers the very best of luck!
Is my child too ill for school?
We understand that it can sometimes be difficult to decide whether your child is well enough to attend school. The NHS provides clear guidance for parents on a range of common childhood illnesses, including coughs, colds, sore throats, chickenpox and tummy bugs. In many cases, children can attend school with minor illnesses, helping them to maintain their learning and routines. However, children with sickness, diarrhoea or a high temperature should remain at home until they are well enough to return. We encourage parents to refer to the NHS guidance whenever they are unsure whether their child should attend school. Further information can be found here:
Harvest Festival
We have been delighted by the generous donations of food and household items that have been brought into school this week as part of our Harvest Festival celebrations. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed. The final day for sending donations into school is Monday 12th October.
The Foodbank has shared a list of items that are currently most needed, and we would be very grateful for any donations of the following:
- Tinned meat and fish
- Tinned fruit and vegetables
- Cooking sauces
- Coffee
- UHT milk
- Cereals
- Long-life fruit juice
- Jam
- Instant mash and noodles
- Toiletries
Members of our Pupil Parliament will collect donations from classrooms each morning and display them in the school hall before they are delivered to the Foodbank.
Thank you for your generosity and support. Your contributions will make a real difference to local families and help us demonstrate the importance of kindness, community and helping those in need.

Odd Socks Day - Monday 9th November 2026
On Monday 9th November, we will be celebrating Odd Socks Day! We invite all children (and staff!) to come to school wearing odd socks to celebrate what makes each of us unique.
Odd Socks Day is part of Anti-Bullying Week and reminds us that it is okay to be different. It is a chance to celebrate our individuality, show respect for others and remember that everyone should feel valued, included and accepted.
Our Worship Team will be leading a special collective worship to help the children understand the meaning behind Odd Socks Day and why respecting and celebrating our differences is so important.
So, find your favourite mismatched socks and get ready for a wonderfully odd day!
