SIAMS Inspection

We are delighted to share the outcome of our recent SIAMS inspection with you. We feel that the report truly captures the strength of our shared vision and the impact it has on the experiences and wellbeing of our school community.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the parents who kindly agreed to be involved in the inspection. Your contributions helped provide a rich and authentic picture of our school. We are also deeply grateful to our dedicated staff and wonderful children, whose commitment, enthusiasm and love for the school family were evident throughout the visit.

We hope you will feel as proud reading it, as we do sharing it with you.

Kindest regards

Sam Porter and Will Doherty

Club Dismissal Times

As we continue to offer a growing number of extra-curricular activities at Leckhampton, we would ask that all parents support us by collecting their children at the correct dismissal time for their club. Our clubs end at different times to prevent congestion at the gate so some parents may need to wait for a short time if they are collecting children from more than one club.

We would like to thank you for your continued support.

Sports Days 2026

We are pleased to share details of our upcoming sports days with you. Whilst we will endeavour to run the events whatever the weather, the children’s safety (and comfort of our spectators!), must be considered. If a postponement is necessary, we will take the decision by 8.00am on the morning of each of our three Sports Days.

On each of the three Sports Days, we will send a message via Class Dojo to confirm if the event is taking place.

We hope that you are able to join us!

Best wishes
Mr Simpson and Mr Robinson
(PE Subject Leads)

KS2 Sports Day Friday 5th June 2026

Some years ago, we reviewed the structure of our Key Stage 2 Sports Day, particularly the types of races that were taking place. We felt strongly that all children should have the opportunity to race on Sports Day if they wished, which had not always been the case previously.

Feedback from pupils and staff highlighted that, in order for the event to be both competitive and fair for all participants, races should be organised into heats based on broad ability. In the weeks leading up to Sports Day, pupils are given several opportunities to race, allowing teachers to carefully assess and place children into the most appropriate races. This ensures that every child who chooses to take part contributes to the house points system that determines the overall winning house.

On the morning of Key Stage 2 Sports Day (Session 1) pupils will take part in field events, alongside a number of fun sprint races and year group relay races. During this session, the sprint semi-finals will also take place, determining which children will progress to compete in the sprint finals later in the day.

The afternoon session (Session 2) will conclude with the sprint finals and the house relay races, providing an exciting and celebratory finish to the day’s events.

During the morning session (session 1) all children will participate in a variety of inclusive activities designed to provide them with appropriately challenging, yet enjoyable competitive opportunities.

The types of events include:

FieldTrack
3 x Jumping events, from:

• Standing long jump

• Standing triple jump

• Speed bounce

• Standing vertical jump

3 x Throwing events, from:

• Vortex (Years 3 & 4)

• Javelin (Years 5 & 6)

• Chest push (Years 3 & 4)

• Shot (Years 5 & 6)

• Underarm target throw

• Minimum of 1 x sprint race (50m in Years 3 & 4 / 60m in Years 5 & 6)

• Minimum of 1 x sprint relay race (4 x 50m)

Science Week

Next week, we will be celebrating Leckhampton Science Week during which all children will be taking part in a range of investigative, hands-on experiences. Our theme for this year is focused on ‘Asking Great Science Questions’ and we’d love for you to get involved at home.

How can families join in at home?

Parental involvement in children’s science learning has a huge impact on whether children consider that ‘science is for them’ so any support at home is gratefully appreciated.

Why not have a go at the kitchen science activity (Soap Bubble Prints) and support your children in asking questions?

We will be using ‘I wonder…’ stem starters to help children formulate their questions.

Example starters include:

‘I wonder why…?’ ‘I wonder how come…?’ ‘I wonder what happens if…?’ ‘I wonder if I can…?’ ‘I wonder if there is…?’

Science Show & Tell

All children are welcome to bring in science-related items to share with their classes during Show & Tell. For example: A Science book, gadget, crystal or fossil.

We are really pleased that most classes have an offer from parents for our ‘Meet a Scientist’ talk. If there any parents who would be happy to come in and talk to the final few classes who do not have a planned visit, we would be very grateful. Please contact us via the school office admin@leckhampton.glousc.sch.uk

We will be posting photos on Class Dojo so keep a look out for what your budding scientists have been up to!

We really appreciate your support.

Best wishes
Mrs Connolley
Science Lead

Sun Safety

As we approach the warmer months, we would like to remind parents and carers of the importance of sun safety. Please ensure that all pupils:

  • Apply sunscreen before coming to school and bring a named bottle of sunscreen into school. Children will be given opportunities to reapply throughout the day.
  • Wear a named sunhat to school and take responsibility to wear it when outside. Teachers will remind children before playtimes.
  • Bring a full water bottle into school each day. Teachers will give children regular opportunities to have a drink between activities.

Teaching and Learning Week

As you are aware, next week is Teaching and Learning Week in school. There will be no teacher-led clubs next week. However, externally-run clubs will continue. Please make a note of the dates on which clubs run.

Our current value for Collective Worship

For the first three weeks of this half term, our whole-school value is Creativity.

At school, we see creativity as much more than art — it includes imagination, curiosity, problem-solving, resilience, collaboration and the confidence to share original ideas. We encourage children to think differently, ask thoughtful questions, take sensible risks and learn from mistakes. By developing creativity, we help our pupils become adaptable, reflective learners who recognise and value both their own strengths and the strengths of others.

Here are a few ideas of some activities that could foster creativity-

  • Build a bridge from paper that can hold a small object.
  • Create an obstacle course and improve it after testing.
  • Put on a short play based on a historical event or retell a story.
  • Compose a simple song or rap about your day.
  • Create a logo for your family.
  • Plan a “dream playground” and label the features.
  • Create a joint piece of artwork where each person adds a section.
  • Design a family time capsule.
  • Keep a “brilliant mistakes” board celebrating things learned through errors.
  • Try learning a new skill together (origami, juggling, coding basics).
  • Take apart (safely) an old appliance to see how it works.
  • Have a “Why Night” where everyone brings a question to explore.
  • Design a new animal by combining features of two real ones.
  • Create an alternative ending to a film or book.

Around the dinner table, you might ask:

  • What creative strengths did you use today?
  • What creative gift did you notice in someone else?
  • How do our different strengths help us as a family?
  • When did you have to try again and be resilient?
  • If you could change or improve one thing today, what would it be?

FoLPS Update

Sports Day Refreshments

FoLPS will be providing refreshments for spectators at the KS1 and Reception Sports Day on Friday 1st May. Hot drinks available at both sessions, along with freshly baked pastries in the morning and cakes in the afternoon. Please bring your reusable cups for a discount! Cash and card accepted.

Refreshments will be served from the Conference Room on the upper playground.

If anyone is a keen baker and would like to donate some home-baked goodies for the afternoon session we would be very grateful! Just bring them along to the Conference Room at any point from morning drop off. Thank you!

FoLPS Party Pack

Did you know that FoLPS has two party packs available for hire? Each contains 36 place settings and costs £10 to rent out, £5 of which is returned to you if you bring back the pack clean and ready for the next party! Cheaper and more environmentally friendly than buying disposable ones. Enquire at the School Shop or drop us an email to chair@folps.com

Kind regards
